AUSTIN, Texas – Fresh off its lone home meet of the 2018 outdoor season, the Stephen F. Austin track and field team will return to Austin, Texas this weekend as it participates in the Longhorn Invitational, a two-day meet held inside Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas. The event marks the second time that SFA will compete in Austin in the outdoor season, having taken part in the 91st installment of the Texas Relays two weeks ago.
Building off the strong showing of its individuals and relay teams at the Texas Relays, SFA hosted the sixth annual Carl Kight Invitational last weekend in Nacogdoches, and saw many athletes secure top eight finishes and personals bests at the event.
The two-day Longhorn Invitational will feature 15 teams in all, with institutions from the Southland Conference, Sun Belt Conference, American, Ivy League, Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences all taking part. Competition gets underway with the field events on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. The running events will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with the 200m dash, followed by the 3000m steeplechase, 800m and 1500m races.
Competition on Saturday begins with the women's 5000m race at 10:00 a.m., while the remainder of the field events will resume beginning at 10:30 with the men's discus. The meet will wrap up with the 4x400 relays, schedule to begin at 3:00 p.m, barring any unexpected delays.
