Jacks Dominant in Front of Home Crowd at Carl Kight Invitational

SFA produces plethora of top performances in first of two showings inside Homer Bryce this season
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A brief lightning delay was unable to dampen the effort by the Stephen F. Austin track and field teams on Friday afternoon as the Jacks showed out in front of their home crowd to cap a successful Carl Kight Invitational in the first of two showings inside Homer Bryce Stadium this season.
CARL KIGHT INVITATIONAL RESULTS
The day started with Ayden Colbert winning the 110mH of the decathlon in 15.44 and placing second in the javelin at 46.72m. In the women's heptathlon, Alana Rouquette earned a second-place finish overall as a time of 2:24.40 in the 800m pushed her into the runner-up position for the event.
In the women's triple jump, Brianna Bejar landed 11.43m (37-6) to finish sixth in the event. D'mitri Patton finished fourth on the men's side at 14.26m (46-9.5). The high jump event saw Abbigail Hirth podium with a fifth-place finish at 1.63m (5-4.25) with Basia Mitchell finishing tied for sixth at 1.53m (5-.25). Rance Berney's 1.93m (6-4.0) effort in the men's high jump pushed him to a fifth-place result.
Complete domination on Friday was viewed at the men's shot put. Kason Reed led four other Lumberjacks into the field's top six as he won the event with a mark of 17.79m (58-4.5). It was a personal-best result for K. Reed. Aiden Reed placed second at 15.70m (51-6.25), Julian Tijerina earned a third place showing at 15.59m (51-1.75) and Jackson Grantham's season-best 15.55m (51-.25) placed him fourth. James Williams rounded out the full effort by Coach Valencia's group by tossing 15.34m (50-4.0) for a point-scoring sixth-place result.
Kiyah Rawls' 13.02m (42-8.75) shot put result is a new personal best and earned her a second-place finish, while Danielle Bejar placed sixth at 12.07m (39-7.25).
In the men's 400m, Darryl George Jr. hit a personal-best time of 48.70 to log a top ten finish in seventh place.
The women's 100m saw the Jacks claim half of the top eight spots with Timiejha Furlow's time of 11.69. Kennedy Swann placed fourth (11.82), Whitnee Teagle (111.95) seventh and Naomi Alexander (12.04) eighth. On the men's side, Perry Watkin's 10.44 result is a top 60 time in all of Division I this season. The women's 100H saw Katelyn Smith place sixth (14.76) after qualifying with the fifth-fastest time.
Like the women's 100m, the 800m also featured four Jacks in the top eight highlighted by a 1-2 SFA finish as Evaline Chepkoech won in 2:07.35; the 35th fastest time in DI this season, while Lauren Creaby earned a personal-best finish of 2:10.57. Kaycei Salazar placed sixth in 2:14.09 and Miranda Duran rounded out the point-scoring showcase in eighth with a time of 2:15.56.
Keyshawn Garcia won the men's 800m in 1:50.30 which stands as a top 50 time in Division I this spring. Kevin Curry IV was less than two seconds back at 1:52.24 to place fourth.
The men's 400mH crown was claimed by Jarvis Anderson who's time of 51.56 lands inside the top 50 as the 48th fastest time in the event by a DI hurdler. It was a talented field that Anderson bested as finishers 2-6 all set top 50 national times in their respective divisions.
A personal best was recorded by Mike Thomas Jr. in the men's 200m as his time of 21.67 earned him a sixth-place finish.
Jada Gibson bested a competitive field in the women's 200m with a top 100 time of 23.92. Swann placed fifth (24.22) and Teagle finished sixth (24.63).
The Jacks swept the 4x400m events with the women's squad of Gibson, Creaby, Mya Sanders and Jovonah Rhodes finishing in 3:50.92. Anderson, Peyton Mabee, Rhyan Smith and Garcia sped to a 3:15.76 finish to land inside the top 90 nationally.
SFA opened Thursday action at the Carl Kight Invitational with five event wins as the rain impacted throws briefly before pushing out to give Thursday's distance carnival competitors a fine canvas to work on from inside Homer Bryce Stadium. Evaline Chepkoech (W 1500m), Valentine Jemutai (W 5000m), Bryson Williams (M LJ), Paul Kiprotich (M 5000m) and Japhet Kimei (M 10000m) all won events on Thursday.
Chepkoech and Jemutai set new program records by winning their respective events, while Kiprotich posted the third-fastest 5000m time in program history.
