Ladyjacks Close Out February with 6-1 Loss at Memphis

Tiboldi wins on number-two singles line
MEMPHIS - In their final action during the month of February, the Stephen F. Austin tennis bounced back from a 1-0 deficit by getting a win by sophomore Darinka Tiblodi in the number-two singles flight but that would prove to be the Ladyjacks' lone team point of the day as they fell 6-1 to Memphis at the Racquet Club of Memphis Sunday morning.
Gunning for their first win of 2018, the Ladyjacks came out in doubles play only to see the Tigers claim an early edge. Gabi Guilarte and Siân Payne fell 6-3 in the number-two tandem flight to Hanna Sohn and Katherine Cao before the host Tigers claimed the doubles point with a 6-4 loss by the duo of Armelle Cerdan and Vero Carbalho to Lina Hohnhold and Josephine Cao.
On the top doubles line, Tiboldi and Nida Kamal posted a 7-6 (7-5) triumph over Anki Wind and Alisha Reayer moments after the Tigers' clinched doubles.
Tiboldi knotted matters quickly once singles action got going, posting a 6-0 win in set one. Up 3-0 in the second set, SFA's sophomore earned credit for the win upon the retirement of Reayer.
Unfortunately, the deadlock was short lived as Guilarte suffered a 6-3, 6-4 setback to Wind in the top singles flight which pushed the Tigers ahead for good. Kamal captured just three games against Katherine Cao, falling 6-1, 6-2 at the number-four slot and while Kaja Ljubic fared slightly better against Josephine Cao, the Tigers managed to sew up the win as Ljubic dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision in the fifth singles flight.
Carvalho was inserted in the number-six singles line and played things close against Hohnhold before losing a 6-4, 6-2 decision. Placed in the number-three singles flight, Cerdan fell behind Claire Sullivan 6-3 after the first set but bounced back to force a third by way of a 6-4 triumph in set two.
In the deciding set, however, Sullivan closed out the Tigers' 6-1 win by claiming a 1-0 (10-8) victory.
Saturday afternoon at the Schlief Tennis Complex, the Ladyjacks begin their 11-match Southland Conference schedule by welcoming league foe Lamar to Nacogdoches. The Ladyjacks and Cardinals are scheduled to begin play at noon.
