NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Having complied a 17-2 record through its first 19 matches of the season, the SFA volleyball is currently ranked 47th in the NCAA Division I volleyball rating percentage index (RPI) rankings which were released Monday afternoon.
The Ladyjacks are currently riding the nation's second-longest active winning streak having won 14-straight matches dating back Saturday, Sept. 1. SFA, which is one of just two Southland Conference teams who have not suffered a loss in league action, owns a 4-0 record in conference play and the Ladyjacks' standing as 47th in the first RPI rankings of the 2018 season represent the team's highest RPI since the final poll of the 2006 season. In that listing, SFA checked in at number 43.
The RPI is a quantity used to rank sports teams based upon a team's wins and losses and its strength of schedule. Currently, SFA has two wins against top-50 teams in the RPI including a 3-1 triumph over Rice (RPI of 25) as well as a 3-1 win over Wichita State (RPI of 42).
SFA's 17 wins are tied with Valparaiso (17-3) for the most in all of NCAA Division I volleyball thus far and the Ladyjacks' RPI placing of 47th is the highest in the Southland Conference by a large margin. The next closest team to SFA is Central Arkansas who checked in at 137th on the list.
Thursday night in Hammond, La., SFA seeks its 15th-straight win when the Ladyjacks continue their Southland Conference slate against Southeastern Louisiana. First serve at the University Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
