
Olson Named SLC Defensive POW

FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin women’s volleyball captain OJ Olson was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period of Sept. 22-28, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
The honor is the second of the season for Olson, who was also recognized for her defensive play during the week of Sept. 8-14.
Olson led the Ladyjacks to two straight set victories during a three-day road trip in Louisiana. The junior libero compiled 42 digs over six sets, averaging 7.00 digs per set to help SFA defeat Nicholls State (3-0) and McNeese State (3-0) and start 2-0 in the conference for the third straight season.
Olson recorded a match-high 23 digs against Nicholls State on Thursday and led all players with 19 digs against McNeese State on Saturday. She helped the Ladyjacks limit the two conference foes to a combined .129 attack percentage over the period.
A native of Cedar Park, Texas (Leander HS), Olson leads the SLC in digs (327) and ranks third in digs per set (5.64) this season.
SFA will return home to Shelton Gym on Thursday, Oct. 2 for their SLC home opener against Incarnate Word. The match is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
