
Holland Named Academic All-American

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin senior setter Paige Holland has been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Women's Volleyball Second Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday morning.
Holland's first academic All-America honor is also the first for SFA since Sabrina Burns was selected to the third team in 2012. Prior to Burns, the Ladyjacks hadn't been represented since 1996 when Brooke Newbury and Susie Schumann made the first and second teams, respectfully. Holland becomes the seventh Ladyjack to earn the prestigious award overall.
Holland's selection comes after being named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team on Nov. 6. Following that announcement, Holland automatically advanced to consideration for All-America status with more than 50 other first team all-district members from across the country. The Division I All-America squad consists of a six players on the first, second and third teams.
Holland, who was also an automatic selection onto the All-Southland Conference Academic First Team at the conclusion of the 2014 season, owns a 3.97 GPA in early childhood education.
The Magnolia, Texas native became the first Ladyjack since 2006 to win the SLC Setter of the Year award after a standout senior season. She was also selected to the All-SLC First Team after finishing second in the conference with 11.60 assists per set in league matches. Holland distributed the most efficient attack in the conference as SFA ranked first in hitting percentage (.278), assists per set (13.60) and kills per set (14.33) in SLC action. She also notched 98 kills, 249 digs and turned in a team-best eight double-doubles while appearing in all 111 sets over 32 matches for SFA on the year.
Holland led her team to a perfect 16-0 record during the 2014 SLC regular season to help the Ladyjacks win their first outright league title since 2006.
After recording 1,097 assists during the season, Holland ends her tremendous collegiate career with 4,488 career assists - the fifth most all-time in SFA history.
To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
