NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Seniors Paige Holland and Jill Ivy were each named to the Capital One Academic All-District Seven teams, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon. Holland was named to the first team, while Ivy picked up second team recognition.
Although the pair has picked up a plethora of academic awards during their time at SFA, the academic all-district honor is the first for both Holland and Ivy.
Holland, who has a 3.97 GPA as an early childhood education major, has been an integral part in the Ladyjacks' 13-0 start to conference play this season. The setter from Magnolia, Texas has compiled 901 assists in 2014 while appearing in all 94 sets and making 25 starts. She currently ranks fifth all-time in SFA history with 4,292 assists over her four years in the program and ranks second in the SLC with 11.60 assists per set in conference matches this year. Holland was named to the 2013 Southland Conference All-Academic Team and is also a three-time SLC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll member.
Ivy, who has a 3.70 GPA in kinesiology, has been a huge part of the Ladyjacks' powerful offensive attack this season. An outside hitter from Katy, Texas, Ivy has posted 333 kills on .266 hitting while starting all 27 matches and appearing in all 94 sets for SFA this year. She currently ranks ninth on SFA's all-time career kills list with 1,314 kills over her four-year career. Her team-leading kill total has propelled SFA to first in the league in kills (13.40 per set) and attack percentage (.232) this year. A two-time All-SLC selection, Ivy was selected to the SLC Academic All-Conference squad in 2012.
Holland and Ivy have helped SFA open the SLC season with an unblemished 13-0 mark - the best start for the program since 2006. The 13-match winning streak is the sixth-longest active streak in the nation at the Division I level.
To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
The Ladyjacks have three regular season matches remaining before the Southland Conference tournament kicks off from Nov. 21-23 in Natchitoches, La. SFA will face Northwestern State on the road Friday night at 7:00 p.m. before playing two more road matches next week against Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word. A win on Friday night against the Lady Demons would give the Ladyjacks the number one seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
