FRISCO, Texas - Freshman middle blocker Justice Walker was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon.
The weekly honor is the first of Walker's career and comes two weeks after sophomore libero OJ Olson earned the defensive nod in the opening week of the 2013 season.
Walker swung a .488 clip and averaged 3.00 kills per set in helping SFA to a 3-2 mark, with a 3-2 win over Louisiana Tech and wins over Grambling State (3-0) and Houston (3-2) in the TCU Nike/Molten Invitational. The Fort Worth, Texas, native, finished with nine kills or more in all five matches, recording a season-high 15 against the Cougars in the tournament finale for both teams. Following the completion of round-robin play, Walker was named to the all-tournament team.
The freshman currently leads the SLC with a .412 attack percentage and ranks sixth with a 0.95 block average per set.
Walker and the Ladyjacks will return to Shelton Gym to begin league play with a pair of matches in the fourth week of the season. SFA will host New Orleans Thursday, Sept. 19, before taking on Southeastern Louisiana Saturday, Sept. 21.
