
Dozier Named Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist

DURHAM, N.C. - Stephen F. Austin shortstop has been named one of 30 semifinalists for the 2013 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, an honor bestowed upon the nation’s top amateur baseball player, in announcement made Tuesday by USA Baseball.
GoldenSpikesAward.com -- powered by MLB Advanced Media -- will be the online home for the award. The website features content devoted exclusively to the GSA, including news, voting history, past winner photo galleries, and photographs and biographical information for the 2013 semifinalists.
Fans can vote online for Dozier at GoldenSpikesAward.com, and can watch live as the list of 30 players is narrowed to three finalists on Tuesday, June 4.
For the third year in a row, the GSA will be awarded live on MLB Network. On Friday, July 19, the three finalists for the award will be at the live presentation, which will air during The Rundown – at 2 p.m. ET – featuring interviews, video highlights and the announcement of the winner. The presentation will also be simulcast live on GoldenSpikesAward.com and USABaseball.com.
The 2013 semifinalists include five players that were named GSA semifinalists in 2012, including Mark Appel (Stanford), a 2012 finalist. Joining Appel as repeat semifinalists are Kris Bryant (San Diego), Marco Gonzales (Gonzaga), D.J. Peterson (New Mexico) and Nick Petree (Missouri State).
Dozier closed out the his junior season leading Southland in multiple offensive categories, including batting average (.396), home runs (17), doubles (25) and slugging percentage (.755). In addition, he closed out the season riding a school-record streak of reaching base safely in 46 consecutive games, in addition to a 16-game hit streak.
He currently ranks in the national top 10 in doubles, home runs, slugging percentage and total base and recently was named the Southland Conference’s player and hitter of the year.
Dozier is the first player in Lumberjack baseball history to be named to the semifinal list for the Golden Spikes Award. He is also a national semifinalist for the both the Brooks Wallace Award(nation's top shortstop), and the Dick Howser Trophy (nation’s top player).
