Burns Named To Academic All-America Team

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin senior Sabrina Burns has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America third Team, SFA's first volleyball academic all-American since 1996.
Burns' selection marks the sixth time a Ladyjack has been named to the academic squad, and is highly deserved after a year in which she was named to the Southland Conference's all-academic first team for the third straight year.
Burns, a native of McAlester, Okla., finished the 2012 fall semester maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA in professional accountancy, and earned consideration for all-America honors after being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team following the end of the season.
In addition to her off-court honors, Burns had her best season of her four-year career on the court. She put up a career-high 2.49 kills per set and led the team with a .236 attack percentage while helping the Ladyjacks to a 22-12 record and advancement to the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament. Those exploits helped earn her all-SLC second team honors, just a year after being an honorable mention selection as a junior.
Burns is the first academic all-America selection for SFA since Brooke Newbury in 1996 with Newbury being the only first-team choice in program history.
