NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjack volleyball team mounted a late rally, but could not finish the deal, falling to two-time defending league champion Central Arkansas 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21) at Shelton Gym Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Jill Ivy led all players and tied a season high with 15 kills on 31 swings, while Katzy Randall picked up her fourth double-double of the season and her first in conference play with 11 kills and 13 digs for the Ladyjacks (7-9, 1-2 SLC).
Madison Hanlan had a team-high 26 digs while Paige Holland added 38 assists and three aces. Holland and four other Ladyjacks combined for nine aces against the Sugar Bears.
UCA (6-8, 2-1 SLC) jumped out early on SFA, hitting .322 in the first two sets to take a 2-0 lead into the half. The Ladyjacks then found themselves on its heels down 19-10 in set three before rallying to score 15 of the next 23 points to steal the third set and extend the match.
However, UCA did not let up in the fourth, racing out to an 18-10 lead, and despite SFA slicing the lead to just three points at 19-16, this time the Sugar Bears had enough gas to finish the job.
SFA will close out the weekend taking on Missouri State Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Shelton Gym. The Ladyjacks will play their next four conference matches on the road against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, University of Texas-San Antonio, Sam Houston, and Southeastern Louisiana, before returning home to take on Texas State October 13.
