NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Lumberjack relief pitcher Jason West has signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, making him the fourth SFA player from this year's squad to sign on with a major league organization.
West joins Bryson Myles (6th round) and Chase Wier (21st round) who were each selected on the second day of the MLB draft, and his twin brother Jared West who signed a free agent deal with the New York Mets following the conclusion of the draft as the four `Jacks to move on from this season's team.
The sidearm right-hander lettered three seasons for SFA, emerging as the team's closer early in the 2009 season. He saved 19 games in his final two years, making 51 appearances in that time and picking up eight wins as well. Those 19 saves ranks second only to Richard Folmer's 21 as the all-time Lumberjack record for a career.
He ranks in the top 10 in all-time ERA at SFA with a 3.82 mark, and his 8.90 strikeouts per nine innings is also second only to Folmer.
In 2010 he was outstanding out of the pen, converting saves in nine of 11 chances and punching out 39 hitters in 37 innings while holding batters to just a .226 average. He was especially potent in neutralizing right-handed hitters, holding them to just a meager .173 average for the season.
