FRISCO, Texas - SFA junior outfielder Bryson Myles has been named the Southland Conference hitter of the week, the league office announced on Monday.
It is the first honor of the year for Myles, and the first weekly honor for a Lumberjack this season. It is also the first time a Lumberjack hitter has been named hitter of the week since Darren Crabtree in March of 2010.
Myles helped SFA to five wins last week, including a three-game conference sweep of Northwestern State over the weekend. The junior from Grand Prairie, Texas, had at least one hit in all four of his starts and finished with a .421 average in five games. All three wins against the Demons came in extra innings to help the Lumberjacks extend their win streak to 11 games.
He had a two-run triple in a 4-0 win over Texas Southern on Tuesday, before going 6-for-15 in a three-game sweep of Northwestern State. He doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning at NSU on Friday, and finished with a home run and three RBI in a 3-for-6 effort in game two.
For the season Myles leads the Southland with a .430 batting average and with 20 stolen bases, just 10 swipes shy of the SFA single-season record.
