NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjacks got seven kills from Jill Ivy, but Texas State won hit .312 and got 11 kills from Melissa Toth to take a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-14) win over SFA on Thursday at Shelton Gym.
It was the sixth straight league win for the Bobcats (15-6, 6-1 SLC) and its eighth straight over SFA (10-12, 3-5 SLC) dating back to 2007.
Madison Hanlan picked up 14 digs for SFA and Paige Holland dished out 28 assists with four digs. In all, SFA had 43 digs to the Bobcats 41, but committed 21 attack errors and were rejected eight times in the three-set affair.
Katzy Randall followed Ivy with six kills, and Leslie Jackson, MC Bottles and Sabrina Burns each scored five times on the afternoon.
SFA struggled out of the gates, hitting .059 in the first set compared to a solid .290 clip for the Bobcats in a 25-13 setback. Bottles and Burns had three kills apiece, but the Ladyjacks committed eight attack errors against just a pair for Texas State in the set.
The Ladyjacks were more efficient with their swings in the second set, but still could not slow down the Bobcat attack despite four successful scores and two blocks from Jill Ivy. Still, SFA's .206 clip for the frame was negated by a trio of Bobcat rejections with SFA not holding a lead after the 3-2 point of the set.
The third set saw much of the same script as the Bobcats jumped out to a 15-6 lead and never looked back, hitting a match-high .379 behind four kills from Toth and three from Amber Calhoun. The Ladyjacks did manage to get back to within six points at the 20-14 mark on a kill from Randall, but Texas State responded with a quick 5-0 run to close out the match.
SFA will next take on UT-Arlington on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Shelton Gym.
