FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin catcher Jarid Scarafiotti was named to the Southland Conference all-Academic first team on Wednesday, marking the first time the sophomore has been named to the squad.
Scarafiotti joins Erich Lehmann as the only SFA sophomores to be named to the all-Academic team since the program was reinstituted in 2006. Student-athletes across the league are not eligible for selection to the team unless they are at least a sophomore in eligibility and have spent at least one full year with on a Southland roster.
The Shreveport, La., native was one of the top hitters in an SFA lineup that paced the Southland Conference in multiple offensive categories. Scarafiotti finished the year with a .306 batting average, seven home runs and 46 RBI. His RBI total was the highest among all league catchers in the 2010 regular season.
Scarafiotti was chosen as an honorable mention all-conference catcher at the end of the year and still managed to excel in the classroom, holding a 3.75 GPA in mathematics and finance.
The Lumberjacks finished up their best season in the program's history at the Southland Conference Tournament, going 34-20 on the year with a 20-12 mark in league play.
