SLC Tournament Quick Hitters:
• This is the third-ever SLC Tournament for the Lumberjacks. SFA went 1-2 in the six-team tournament in 2007 and went 0-2 as the No. 8 seed in 2009.
• SFA comes into this year’s tournament as the No. 4 overall seed, the highest seed the program has ever managed to receive. In fact, when SFA takes the field in its tourney opener against No. 5 UT-Arlington it will mark the first time SFA has ever played a tournament game as the higher seed.
• David Jeans is the only Lumberjack to ever earn all-tournament honors, doing so in the 2007 tournament. Jeans went 5-for-5 in SFA’s second-round win over McNeese State in one of the greatest individual performances in SFA baseball’s history.
• There have been five No. 4 seeds to claim the tournament title since the tournament was reinstated in 1993. Most recently Sam Houston won as the No. 4 in both 2007 and 2008; however, SFA is one of four teams with at least 20 league wins this season and never in the history of the tournament has a team with 20 wins within the league claimed the tournament crown.
• Since the league went back to playing a conference tournament in 1993, high seeds have not fared well. Only once - Lamar in 2004 - has the regular season champion won the tournament, while a No. 2 seed has never taken they tourney title. The No. 3 and No. 4 seed have each won six titles since 1993, while Sam Houston State was the lowest to ever do it when the Bearkats won last year’s tournament as a No. 7 seed.
