Series Notes & What To Watch For
- SFA pulled out a 10-9 win in the team's first meeting this season on March 16 in Edinburg. Tanner Hines delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the ninth and Garrett Smith threw out pinch runner Billy Donaho at the plate for the game's final out as the `Jacks hung on despite committing three errors and burning through six pitchers. It was supposed to be part of a doubleheader, but the set was reduced to just a single game due to inclement weather in the Rio Grande Valley.
- The last time these teams met in Nacogdoches was on March 15, 2009, when the teams split a doubleheader at Jaycees Field. Zach Gardner hit a pair of doubles in the first game, a 9-8 win for UTPA in 10 innings that was the first win over SFA in 10 tries, to become the all-time hits leader at SFA. The teams then played just a seven-inning contest that was all SFA with the `Jacks rebounding for an 11-3 win behind a 4-for-4 effort from Ryan Priest.
- Tanner Hines comes into Wednesday's twin bill looking to keep his 16-game hit streak alive, a streak that is quickly nearing his own school-record streak of 19 games that he set in the final 19 games of the regular season last year. His streak is tied with UTA's Chad Comer for the longest active streak in the Southland, and is tied for the 12th longest in the nation entering Wednesday.
- SFA will be giving two freshmen their first starts of the season on Wednesday as Josh Wright and Cody Priest will take to the hill for the `Jacks. Both righties have been used exclusively in relief so far this season.
