AGAINST THE LIONS Southeastern Louisiana has taken two of three games in each of the three series' since SFA brought back baseball in 2006. This is the first time the `Jacks have gone to Hammond, La., since 2007. The Lions lead the all-time series 15-10 dating back to 1984.
FOLLOW THE 'JACKS RADIO: Each of the games will be broadcast live on KSFA 860 AM with Ben Rikard on the call.
LIVE STATS: Livestats will be available at Lionsports.net
UPDATING THE 'JACKS The `Jacks wrapped up a seven-game homestand with a 5-2 record after taking two of three from Sam Houston. Overall SFA has won six of its last eight games with seven remaining after Wednesday's game with Louisiana Tech was rained out. SFA currently sits in eighth place in the SLC, 3.5 games ahead of McNeese State for the final spot in the SLC Tournament.
UP NEXT Perennially one of the nation's top teams, Baylor looms on the horizon next week for SFA in as the `Jacks final non-conference opponent of the season. That will serve as preparation for Lamar as the Cardinals come to Nacogdoches starting May 14 to play the final three games on the 2009 schedule. If the `Jacks qualify for the SLC Tournament, it would be held the following weekend in Corpus Christi, Texas.
What To Watch For
- The State of Louisiana has not been kind to the `Jacks this season, with SFA having already made four previous trips to the east of the Sabine River this season. SFA had its trip to Ruston, La., canceled due to weather on Wednesday but will now look to buck the trend in Hammond as the `Jacks are only 2-5 this year in the Pelican State.
- Tanner Hines enters the weekend with a 12-game hit streak, which ties him with Brian Ferguson for the longest streak by a Lumberjack this season. In those 12 games he is hitting a robust .479 and has scored 11 runs with 23 hits. Oddly enough, his top-of-the-order approach has led to only one of those 23 hits going for extra bases but has also led to SFA going 8-4 in those 12 games. With eight games remaining on the schedule, Hines could potentially break the school's longest hit streak of 18 games if he is able to get a hit in each of the remaining games.
- Zach Gardner needs just two doubles to tie Blake Boydston for the all-time mark at SFA of 36 and to tie Kevin Crabtree's single-season mark of 18 set one season ago. Sean Meyers is also not far behind on that list either, with 30 career doubles and 15 this season.
- Th `Jacks have been solid in teh season's final month over the past three years. In the month of May since 2006, the Lumberjacks have gone 21-14 overall, and 17-11 in the Southland Conference The team's conference win total has increased every season and if that trend continues, you could be seeing the `Jacks with a mid-level seed in Copus Christi at the league tournament.
