Probable Pitching Matchup
Tuesday: SFA - TBA Baylor - Shawn Tolleson, RHP (0-1, 4.82 ERA, 37.1 IP, 29 K, 20 BB)
UPDATING THE 'JACKS SFA lost two of three last weekend at Southeastern Louisiana, but still managed to clinch a spot in next week's Southland Conference Tournament. SFA is 3.0 games back of Sam Houston for the No. 7 seed, but will need a sweep of Lamar coupled with a sweep of Sam Houston by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to move into that No. 7 slot.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR With one conference series remaining the 'Jacks are strictly playing for tournament seeding. They host Lamar beginning on Thursday, a team that the 'Jacks have not defeated in a series since bringing back baseball. SFA will also honor its senior class in the regular season finale on Saturday.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- Tanner Hines enters Tuesday with a team-best, 15-game hit streak. Brian Ferguson had a 12-game streak earlier in the season but Hines surpassed that with hits in each of the three games this weekend at Southeastern Louisiana. In those 15 games he is hitting .429 and has scored 12 runs with 27 hits. Oddly enough, his top-of-the-order approach has led to only two of those 27 hits going for extra bases. If he is able to keep it up through the end of the regular season he would break the school record hit streak of 18 games set by Steven Hill in 2007.
- Zach Gardner had a double in Friday's game in Hammond, giving him 35 for his career and putting him just one double shy of tying Blake Boydston for the all-time record at SFA. He and Sean Meyers have already collected 17 doubles this season which ties them with Steven Hill in 2007 for second-most all-time and puts them only one double behind Kevin Crabtree's single-season record of 18 that was set last season.
- The 'Jacks have never beaten the Bears since brining baseball back in 2006, and are 0-20 in recorded history against Baylor. SFA has played the Bears seven times since 2006, all in Waco, with the Bears holding an average six-run margin of victory. However, Baylor could be vulnerable to the 'Jacks this season as they actually hold a sub-.500 record against the Southland Conference this season having fallen to UTA, Texas State and Sam Houston.
