FRISCO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team swept the Southland Conference Player of the Week awards for the first time this season with Lauren Railey claiming the Offensive Player of the Week honors and Laurel Kuepker earning Defensive Player of the Week honors the league office announced on Monday.
For Railey, it is the third time in her career that she has picked up the honor while Kuepker earned it for the first time.
Railey registered at least 13 kills in each of SFA's three matches over the weekend, earning MVP honors of the SMU Radisson Invitational that SFA won. She averaged 3.62 kills per game, topping out with a season-best 18-kill performance against Montana. The McKinney, Texas, native added five aces and also averaged 3.62 digs per game on the defensive side.
Kuepker was dynamite at libero, averaging 5.85 digs per game during the tournament. She opened up with 25 digs in a win over previously unbeaten New Orleans before adding 15 more against Montana. She saved her best for last, though, as she put up a new career-best with 36 digs against SMU. That mark is the third-highest single-match total ever at SFA, with only former All-American Stephanie Figgers having posted higher totals.
Railey and Kuepker will be busy this week, as will the rest of the Ladyjacks as SFA has six matches scheduled in the next eight days. SFA hits the road to take on Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday before opening up the Ladyjack Invitational sponsored by The Grove on Friday against Oklahoma.
Matches with Rice and Creighton are scheduled for Saturday, with a match versus UT-Pan American on the slate for Sunday and North Texas on Tuesday.
