NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjacks have the task of replacing all-time assists leader JJ Jones at the setter slot this year, but Whitney Schott received plenty of reps as a freshman and should be ready to go as a more experienced sophomore in 2008. Schott and Jones teamed up in SFA's 6-2 offense last year to give the Ladyjacks the most potent setting tandem in the league, helping SFA lead the conference in assists during conference play. The Roscoe, Ill., native tallied 475 assists on her own in 2007 and was the primary setter for the Ladyjacks all spring, she will bring quickness, leadership and a familiarity with her teammates to the table.
With only one setter returning with experience, Humphreys knew that it was going to be important to not only find depth at the position but also someone with some experience as well. She found just that in Paloma Buckner, a 5-11 transfer from Illinois Central College, who had the school's second-highest assist total with more than 1,300 assists last year for the Cougars.
The other newcomer is Melissa Miksch, a freshman from Austin, Texas, who has Humphreys raving about her athleticism and versatility. She played a number of different positions in her high school and club days, and Humphreys says she could see time not only as a setter and outside hitter as a Ladyjack, but also in a ball-control roll.
