NACOGDOCHES, Texas - After picking up a pair of conference wins last weekend over Central Arkansas, the Lumberjack baseball team cracks open a six-game homestand beginning Tuesday against UNLV at 3:00 p.m.
SFA climbed back into the hunt for a slot in the SLC Tournament with the wins over the Bears, using offense to do so. The `Jacks scored 10 runs apiece along with some timely bullpen help on both Saturday and Sunday to pick up the wins, but face a new challenge this week with the Rebels before hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the weekend.
Kevin Crabtree comes into the UNLV series having just claimed his first SLC Hitter of the Week award after getting six extra-base hits in the five games last week, including a pair of home runs against UCA on Sunday.
Donnie Watson will throw Erik Gregersen to the hill on Tuesday for his third start of the season after he set career bests on Friday at UCA with seven innings tossed and six strikeouts. In his last five appearances Gregersen has kicked into a different gear, posting a 3.20 ERA in 19.2 innings over those games.
The Rebels are making their first trip to Nacogdoches, marking the first time that SFA has ever faced a team from west of the State of Texas. UNLV is led by slugger Xavier Scruggs, who is hitting .446 with eight home runs and 34 RBI on the year to lead the Rebels in each category. Overall UNLV has eight players hitting .310 or better, but the offense is necessary considering the pitching staff has surrendered an ERA of 6.83 as a team.
