NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA baseball team got in seven innings of ball on Thursday, but darkness and looming inclement weather suspended the play before starting the eighth with the `Jacks leading Sacred Heart 8-1 at Jaycees Field.
The game is scheduled to be completed on Saturday after game three of the series is played. Game two of the series is still scheduled for Friday at 3:00 p.m., while the third game was moved up an hour to 1:00 p.m. with a short break between the conclusion of it and the completion of Thursday's game. The fourth game of the series is still scheduled for Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
Lance Luetge got the start for SFA against the Pioneers and left as the pitcher of record after giving up only one run through six innings with four strikeouts and three walks allowed. That effort lowered his season ERA to 1.88 through three starts.
SFA had three runs in the first inning, aided by three consecutive doubles by Matt Whatley, Kevin Croft and Adam Bosley. The `Jacks followed with runs in the fourth and fifth and then got a two-RBI single from Kai Kirby with two outs in the seventh to make the margin 8-1 before the game was called.
