NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA baseball team will open up conference play this weekend when it hosts Southeastern Louisiana for a three-game set beginning at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Jaycees Field.
The `Jacks and the Lions each sport identical 8-6 records through 14 non-conference games; however, the Lions are coming off a road win over LSU followed by a home win over Jackson State while SFA is coming off a ninth-inning loss at Houston on Tuesday.
SFA and SELA are two very different types of teams as the `Jacks will rely on its powerful offense while the Lions will look toward its pitching as a means to victory. The Lions currently lead the SLC with a 2.90 team ERA, led by the weekend rotation that will be seen by SFA starting Friday with left-hander Wade Miley. His ERA of just over 3.00 will be followed by a righty, Josh Black, who sports a nifty 2.16 ERA of his own.
Donnie Watson's bunch is currently off to its best start since bringing back the program and is scoring nearly eight runs per game in the process. Senior second baseman Noel Trevino has moved into second in the SLC with five home runs after being named SLC Hitter of the Week on Tuesday.
Junior Erich Lehmann will head to the hill for SFA on Friday against Miley, while Lance Luetge and Heath Konesheck are projected as the starters for Saturday and Sunday. Luetge had the best performance by any `Jacks starter on Tuesday at Houston, going five innings while allowing no runs and only letting four Cougars even reach base.
Each game can be followed via Gametracker at www.sfajacks.com.
