NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Last week we had our final regular season conference games, making a four-day trip to Louisiana. We left Wednesday around noon, heading for McNeese in Lake Charles. Upon arrival, we went and ate our usual spot, Cracker Barrel, and to no surprise, Betty was waiting for us with a flower in her hair. Also, our waitress was from Missouri, which caused quite a stir. After eating a good meal, we set off for the gym. I thought we were ready to go, but apparently not as we easily dropped the first two games. After intermission, we came out of the locker room, and were finally ready to play, but it proved to be too late. We lost the match in four.
From Lake Charles we set off for Hammond for the next two nights. We got to our hotel rather late, but fortunately we were able to sleep in a little bit the next morning. After breakfast, we were able to either go back to sleep for a bit or do homework until around noon, when we had a meeting going over Southeastern, where we were given the incentive of going to a fun place to eat after the match and getting ice cream if we won... talk about people getting excited...
Following that, we went to the "mall" across the street. I say "mall" because it was a Dillard's and a Sears. However, there was also a Rite-Aid, and I picked up our new favorite item du jour: a Nerf football. We were originally supposed to shop for about two hours, but since there were not many places to go, Jami, Bay, Ari and I threw the football in the parking lot of the hotel for a while. It was fun, especially because the ball boosts everyone's self-confidence by making a perfect spiral every time.
After the fun in the parking lot, we went to eat at Ryan's, which is not as good as Golden Corral, but it is not bad either. As soon as we finished eating, we briefly went back to the hotel, and then went straight to the gym. While the Lions were having their passing time, we played probably the most awesome game of "keep it up" with the football, and it was way exciting (especially when it would get out of control and we would either scream or start counting really loud - yes, we counted). So about the game... we won in three, but do not be deceived, Southeastern put up a good fight - they were no match for our desire to get ice cream. Perhaps you were wondering what the "fun place" was that we ate at following the match. Well, we went to Buffalo Wild Wings where they have the interactive trivia games. Oh boy do I love trivia! Go Team Miley!
Friday morning we had practice in Hammond before we set off for Thibodaux. We were still pretty excited about our ice cream that we had yet to eat, so I think it was a pretty good practice. However, I must say that I was rather sore - not from playing the night before, but from throwing the football. We ate at some place called Brady's in town, and some indulged in some sweet potato fries, while I opted for some trout. I ate some of the skin until I realized that Coach was not eating hers. There was a brief discussion over whether or not you are supposed to eat the skin, but we never really reached a solid conclusion. It tasted fine to me... Also, KO did not get her food until way after everyone else, so we all enjoyed her thought-provoking comments while we ate.
On the way to Nicholls, we watched R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet hip hopera, which is indubitably one of the finest pieces of art ever produced. We arrived in Houma at one of my all-time favorite hotels around 6:30pm, just in time for the super awesome sneak peek at Twilight. Immediately after that, we went to Chubby's for - you guessed it - ICE CREAM! YAY! It was delicious. I sucked that shake down like there was no tomorrow. I think KO enjoyed it more than anyone else, consuming not only her brownie sundae, but finishing off several others' treats as well.
Back at the hotel, we prepared for some recreational activities before bed. Unfortunately, there was some sort of birthday party at the pool, so I was unable to get in the hot tub for my old and aching body. However, there was a brief game of Hide and Seek in the parking lot. I was interested for about three rounds and then I just got hot and annoyed because I am slow. Sydney Ellis ran into a trashcan, shattering it to pieces, and got a pretty sweet injury to show for it. I also saw a cute old man with a beer mug hat on.
The next morning we had to get up relatively early and eat breakfast, as our match was at 1pm. On the ride to Thibodaux, Jami and I looked for gators in the ditch/swamp next to the road. For a while all we saw was upturned boats and trash, but eventually, Jami spotted one. I missed it. ☹ When we finally arrived at the gym, we played a slightly less intense game of "keep it up" until it was time for warm-up. Sadly, one of the ball's fins fell off. It was all right though, as we took care of Nicholls rather handily in three. After cleaning up in some roach-infested showers, we grabbed some food and set sail for Nacogdoches. It was a long bus ride home, but we watched the Dark Knight, which took up about half the ride. That movie is entirely too long to retain my interest on a bus.
This weekend is THE weekend, as SFA hosts the Southland Conference tournament. We play Sam Houston on Friday at 6:30pm, and assuming we win, on Saturday at 4pm and Sunday at 2pm. COME SUPPORT THE LADYJACKS AS WE TRY TO WIN THE SLC TITLE AND DEFEND OUR HOME COURT!!! Axe `Em Jacks!!!
