NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjacks had its second-best hitting night of the season and picked up its 10th consecutive win of the season, sweeping Louisiana Tech 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25, 13) Tuesday night at Johnson Coliseum.
Debbie Humphreys used the match to get looks at a number of different players in different settings, playing 10 players on the night. SFA (12-3, 3-0 SLC) had eight players register kills, led by Ashley Bailey's 12 kills on 17 tries. She only misfired a single time, hitting at .647 for the night, her fifth consecutive match hitting over .435.
Louisiana Tech (2-11, 0-5 WAC) had trouble with SFA's serve all night as the Ladyjacks dropped in seven aces in only three sets, led by two apiece by Whitney Schott and Lauren Railey. Railey paced the Ladyjacks' back row with 17 digs on the evening, followed closely by reigning SLC Defensive Player of the Week Laurel Kuepker with 15.
Schott became only the ninth Ladyjack to ever accumulate 1,000 assists for a career with her 33-assist performance, while Shelly Swendig moved over from her outside hitter position to get some reps at setting and responded with eight assists along with her eight kills.
SFA only trailed after allowing the first point on the first set of the night to go the Lady Techster's way, seeming to have the match in hand throughout. Louisiana Tech came in only hitting .109 on the season and only managed to hit .120 on the night against SFA's defense, which responded with five blocks versus a tall front line.
The Ladyjacks hit .345 in the first set, constantly building its lead to its final margin of 10 at 25-13 on a kill from Railey.
Kelsey Owens fired in six of her eight kills in the second set, as the Ladyjacks hit a match-high .405 from the field in the 10-point win that sent them to the locker room up by a pair of sets.
The third set was never in doubt either, with SFA holding Louisiana Tech to only -.065 hitting to .324 for SFA in the closing frame. This time it was Bailey taking command, hammering in half of her 12 kills on the night in the final stanza.
SFA jumps back into Southland Conference play on Friday with a 7:00 p.m. match versus Nicholls State in Johnson Coliseum, followed by a 2:00 p.m. first serve against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.
