NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Shelly Swendig poured in 14 kills and the Ladyjacks hit .371 as a team in picking up a 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-12) win over Nicholls State on Friday at Johnson Coliseum.
The win is the 11th consecutive win for the Ladyjacks (13-3, 4-0) as they hit over .460 in each of the final two sets. With Lamar's sweep of UTSA in Beaumont, it leaves SFA as the only team in the Southland without a loss.
Nicholls (5-9, 2-2) never seemed comfortable against SFA, especially once the Ladyjacks took hold of the lead for good in the first set at 10-9. Behind six kills and a pair of assists from Swendig in the set, SFA scored seven of the next eight points to get some breathing room before kills from Swendig and Ashley Bailey finished off the set with a five-point advantage for SFA.
SFA totaled 15 kills with only one error in hitting .467 in the second set, this time Kelsey Owens being setter Whitney Schott's favorite target, landing five kills on seven tries. She was one of four Ladyjacks in the set with at least two kills, with Schott dishing out 15 of her 41 assists in the frame.
The third set was never in doubt as SFA raced out to a 12-0 lead and hit .464 in the frame. This time it was Bailey who was the primary target, scoring six kills and adding three blocks in the 25-12 win.
Swendig's 14 kills led the way, but she was followed closely by Bailey with a dozen and Kelsey Owens and Lauren Railey with seven apiece, respectively. Bailey led the way defensively with five blocks, while MC Bottles added four of her own and Laurel Kuepker hit double digits in digs once again with 11.
The Ladyjacks look to run their win streak to a dozen on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. start time scheduled at Johnson Coliseum against Southeastern Louisiana.
