NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Last week we had a stretch of home matches, starting on Tuesday against Louisiana Tech. They did not seem too thrilled to be playing us, and it showed, as we dominated them in three games. We kept busy with weights and practice (and I was living in the library) until Friday, when it was time to play Nicholls. A pretty good crowd showed up for this 7pm match, and the first game was deceptive in that it was fairly close, but the next two games proved to be far less interesting and we took them down in three. They played some good defense, but it was not enough to hang with the Ladyjacks. After the match, some of us went to La Carreta, where the service is astonishing and the chicken chimichangas cannot be beaten.
Saturday we had an afternoon match against Southeastern, set to start at 2pm. Like the game against Nicholls, the first game was pretty close, but we still pulled it out. Interestingly enough, I twisted my ankle on a stray foot of a Lion. Ouch for me. I got to use crutches though, which I have always secretly wanted to do, but now that I have, I realize that I am entirely too clumsy to maneuver those things properly. So needless to say, I did not play the rest of the match. We won game two easily, and then the dreaded ten-minute break came. We came out in game three a little flat, and ended up losing it after going into several match/game point situations. We fought back in game four, however, and finished the Lions off.
I am not really aware of what everyone else did after the match, as I was busy hobbling around my house and elevating my ankle. Luckily, I got upgraded (?) to a boot on Sunday, because those crutches really did not help my situation - they probably endangered me more.
This week we start to raid the wild West like a pack of bandits - they won't know what hit `em. We play A&M Corpus on Wednesday at 7pm in Johnson Coliseum, and UTSA on Saturday at 2pm at the Roadrunners' place.
Phrase in honor of mid-semester pandemonium: (at) Full Throttle: if a person or a machine is at full throttle, they are doing something as well and with as much energy as they can. (Courtesy of the Coca-Cola bottling company) Ex.: Shelly is at full throttle right now in the library.
