FRISCO, Texas - Sophomore libero Laurel Kuepker earned her second consecutive Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor on Monday, making her the first player in the conference this season to win an honor in back-to-back weeks.
Kuepker has now taken the weekly nod three times this season, with no other player in the SLC having received a weekly honor more than once. The LaPorte, Ind., native's honor marks the ninth time since 2006 that an SFA libero has won SLC Defensive Player of the Week.
She currently leads the SLC in digs per set and has raised her average to 5.00 digs per set in conference play. That was her average in three matches this week as her play helped push the Ladyjacks to a 3-0 week and run their current win streak to 12 matches.
She opened the week with a 15-dig performance in SFA's thrashing of Louisiana Tech, then followed that up with an 11-dig showing in a sweep of Nicholls State on Saturday.
Kuepker ended the week by keeping alive 24 balls versus Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday as SFA disposed of the Lady Lions in four sets.
Kuepker and the Ladyjacks are slated for two more SLC matches this week, starting with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Johnson Coliseum on Wednesday. They will then travel to San Antonio for a Saturday matinee match against the Roadrunners.
SFA currently leads the SLC with a 14-3 overall record and 5-0 conference mark, and is the only team left without a loss in conference play this year.
