After rave reviews SFAJacks.com is bringing back the 2007 volleyball player's diary, this year with junior outside hitter Shelly Swendig.
Friday afternoon we arrived in Houston, and went to McAllister's for lunch, where, in spite of slow service, we managed to enjoy ourselves. L.A. and J.J. tried out some new laughs, which were disgusting, albeit quite hysterical, and hilarious jokes with punch lines such as "and then she put it in the McAllister's cup!" and something about Tabasco sauce were told.
While our spirits and energy carried over into games one and two of our match versus Houston, we were unable to finish the match and ended up losing in five. I will not go into much detail, but I have never been so... aggravated in my life. To my delight, however, we were staying at the wonderful Hyatt, where we also ate a late, but incredible dinner.
On the morn of Saturday, September 15, we arose to consume the breakfast of champions - McDonald's. At noon, the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest were first on our agenda. We were ready to get after it after the disappointing and frustrating night before, and I was especially ready, as I felt I had a personal score to settle.
In sum, we vanquished the Deacs in three. After the win, Jason delivered some sandwiches from his deli, and we lingered around the gym for a few hours in anticipation for our next game. Our next match against Rice seemed to come rather quickly, and at 5pm Central Standard Time, the match commenced. The first game proved to be deceiving, as we beat them easily, but we ended up going to five games yet again. Apparently, we like to play as many games as we can with Conference USA teams. Fortunately this time we had the more pleasing of the two possible outcomes.
Our postgame victory meal consisted of the delightful cuisine of none other than Luby's Cafeteria, where I learned that there is a Muppet named "Kermit the Crab," according to Bri. And I won't mention that I found a hair in my mashed potatoes. Oops. We loaded back on the bus and decided that, among other things, Space Jam is one of the best soundtracks ever.
This weekend we'll start conference play with Northwestern on Friday, and the SUGAR BEARS (ask J.J. to say it) of Central Arkansas on Saturday. Come cheer us on!!! Axe `Em Jacks!
