NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA athletic department announced the addition of Ben Rikard to the media relations staff on Monday afternoon. He will serve as the primary contact for volleyball, baseball, women's tennis and women's equestrian. He has also been earmarked as the radio voice of the Lumberjack baseball team for the 2008 season.
Rikard is a 2006 graduate of SFA with a bachelor's degree in Radio/TV and a minor in journalism. He joins the staff after spending the past season as a media relations intern at the University of North Texas.
While at North Texas, Rikard served as the primary contact for the Mean Green volleyball and track teams while assisting with numerous other sports. Some of the highlights of his year included North Texas claiming the Sun Belt Conference Western Division crown in volleyball, following the Mean Green men's basketball team on its first Sun Belt title and the NCAA Tournament in New Orleans, and the hiring of new football coach Todd Dodge.
Rikard assisted as North Texas hosted the 2006 Sun Belt Conference volleyball tournament and served as the primary statistician for the event. He was also instrumental in the development of the 2007 North Texas Football Spring Prospectus, which included research and writing of player biographies as well as the layout of the publication.
Before his time at North Texas, Rikard served as the radio play-by-play voice for the Nacogdoches High School football team, Angelina College women's basketball team, and Hudson High School baseball during the 2005-06 campaigns.
