FRISCO, Texas - After finishing among the top 10 in almost every offensive statistical category through regular-season play, Stephen F. Austin's own Steven Hill was named the Southland Conference Baseball Player of the Year and Hitter of the Year. Hill's honors are a result of voting by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Hill, a senior from Houston, led the conference in hitting with 24 home runs, 73 RBI, 69 runs scored, 45 walks and 179 total bases. His .390 batting average was fifth in the league while his .840 slugging percentage is tops and his .493 on-base percentage ranks second. Hill was also a first-team All-SLC pick.
Jared Pitts, Erich Lehmann and Lance Luetge joined Hill on the all-conference teams as third-team picks. Noel Trevino, Kevin Croft and Zach Gardner all received an honorable mention.
The Lumberjacks finished the year with a 30-26 overall record and a conference mark of 17-13 to advance to their first ever Southland Conference Tournament. SFA, the No. 6 seed, will face No. 1 Texas-San Antonio Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Brown-Stroud Field in Natchitoches, La.
