DALLAS - Lumberjack first baseman Steven Hill has been named to the Dick Howser Trophy watch list, announced the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Thursday afternoon. Hill is one of 50 candidates nominated for the Howser Trophy, given to the top player in collegiate baseball.
Hill was voted to the watch list after leading Stephen F. Austin with a .374 batting average. His 17 home runs this season rank third in the nation and his 57 RBI put him among the top 10 in the NCAA.
The Houston native is one of two Southland Conference players to be named to the watch list. Sam Houston State designated hitter Bobby Verbick is also on the list.
The Lumberjacks jump back into Southland Conference action this weekend as they face Nicholls State in a three-game set at Jaycees Field. Friday's game is slated for a 3 p.m. start with Saturday's and Sunday's games beginning at 1 p.m.
