'Jacks Sign Pair To National Letters Of Intent

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin head baseball coach Donnie Watson has announced the signing of a pair of players to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period for the 2009 season - outfielder Bo Coffman and right-handed pitcher Chris Court.
Coffman, a 6-0, 185-pound left-handed outfielder, led Maypearl High School to the state tournament in 2005 where he was selected to the all-tournament team for his efforts. He also earned all-state honors that season before moving to Harmony High School to finish his prep career. Originally committing to Dallas Baptist University out of high school, Coffman played in the Texas Collegiate League in 2007 and earned an invitation to the TCL All-Star Game. While in the TCL, he led the Mineral Wells Steam in batting average, home runs and RBIs on his way to earning TCL All-League honors. Coffman is scheduled to play a key part at Grayson County College in Denison, Texas, this season before coming to Nacogdoches.
"Bo is a big-time, left-handed hitting outfielder that answers all of our questions for the outfield next season and will give us as good of an outfield as there is in the Southland Conference," Watson said. "He can hit for power and average and ultimately I feel like he really wanted to be at SFA."
Chris Court is a 6-0, 175-pound pitcher who spent last season on the mound for Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas. A right-hander that was originally recruited as a catcher, Court saw action in 11 games for the Rebels in 2007 and was selected to participate in the Junior College Freshman All-Star Game held at Baylor University. Court started off as a third-baseman at Bryan High School in Bryan, Texas, as a junior before moving behind the plate as a senior. He earned honorable mention all-district honors in his final prep season, throwing out 26 of 31 baserunners on the year.
"I think Chris will prove to be an innings-eater for us and he is really going to fill a need for us next year," Watson said. "He can throw three pitches for strikes, has great pitcher's movement and is as good against left-handers as he is against right-handers."
SFA is coming off the most successful season in the program's history in 2007, having gone 31-28 and three rounds deep in the SLC Tournament. The 'Jacks will open up the 2008 campaign on Feb. 22 against Texas State in Edinburg at the UT-Pan American Tournament.
