NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin's Stephanie Figgers was named one of the top five liberos in the nation, announced the College Volleyball Update Wednesday afternoon. Figgers, who ended her four-year volleyball career at SFA last fall, wracked up awards after leading the Ladyjacks to the second-round of the NCAA tournament.
Figgers ended the season with a total of 853 digs, the second most in the nation. Her 6.93 digs average was ranked third in the country. She finished her career with a total of 2,598 digs. That number ranks second all-time in NCAA history.
For her efforts, the Katy, Texas, native was named the SLC Player of the Year and earned her second straight first-team All-SLC honor. She concluded her senior season by earning SLC Tournament MVP honors and her third-straight SLC Libero of the Year award. Following the season, Figgers was named first-team All-Central Region, marking the first time an SLC player has received the honor. Strong in the classroom as well, she also earned academic all-conference honors for the second straight season.
It is the third time this week the College Volleyball Update has honored the Ladyjacks. Late last week, SFA was named one of the top five digging teams in the nation before being named one of the top five defensive teams.
The Ladyjacks' fourth SLC tournament title led them to their fourth NCAA appearance in school history. SFA defeated Alabama, 3-2, in the first round of the tournament to record its first ever tournament victory, before falling to No. 7 Texas, 3-0.
