FT. WORTH, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team's (5-4) three-match win streak was ended Friday afternoon by Miami (Ohio) at the TCU Invitational. SFA lost to the RedHawks, 3-1 (30-22, 29-31, 30-23, 30-21). SFA bounced right back in the evening session to knock off in-state rival Texas Christian, 3-1 (30-28, 30-20, 26-30, 32-30).
The Ladyjacks fell behind early, 1-0, to Miami (Ohio), but battled back in game two to tie the match behind senior Jennifer Wilson (Friendswood, Texas) and sophomore Joanna Benestante (Houston, Texas). Both players recorded 12 kills, but it wasn't enough as SFA struggled offensively, recording an .021 attack percentage for the match.
SFA rebounded nicely in the evening session beating TCU, 3-1. Wilson and classmate Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) each recorded 20 kills as the Ladyjacks picked up their fifth victory of the season. Benestante added 14 kills on 39 attempts (.308 attack percentage) and that would be all the Ladyjacks needed as they held TCU to a .171 team attack percentage.
The Ladyjacks return to the court Saturday to take on San Jose State. The match is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start.
