
Ladyjacks Picked to Finish Second

PLANO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team was picked to finish second in the Southland Conference in a poll of both the league coaches and sports information directors announced the league office Monday morning.
SFA received two first-place votes and 87 points in the head coach's poll, placing them just behind SLC preseason pick Texas-Arlington. The Mavericks received nine first-place votes and 97 points. UTA is also the preseason pick in the sports information directors poll, receiving nine of the 11 first-place votes and a total of 117 points. The Ladyjacks are second with one first-place vote and 102 points. The other first-place vote went to Lamar. The Cardinals were picked to finish third with 95 points.
The Ladyjacks open up the 2002 season Friday Aug. 30, at the Wichita State Tournament in Wichita, Kansas. The Ladyjacks will take on New Mexico at 2 p.m., and return to the court to play tournament-host Wichita State at 7 p.m.
