Undefeated No More: SFA Takes Down SLU in Series Finale

The Lumberjacks axe a 25-game win streak for the Lions with a walk-off homerun from Ella Hill.
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team wrapped up their series against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions at Nacogdoches High School Wednesday afternoon.
SLU came into this matchup with a 25-game win streak, the longest in the nation, and a perfect 20-0 in conference play. Jordyn Ages got the start in the circle for SFA and pitched a three up, three down first inning. The Jacks' bats got going early in the first with a leadoff double from Jamie Varga then Adelyn Becerra followed with an RBI double to left field to put the first run on the board for SFA, 1-0. After a groundout moved Becerra to third, Kyi'Marri Ester dropped a blooper single into left center to score the second run of the game, 2-0. Kaylee Paul followed with a single to shortstop before Malia Jones drove in the third run of the inning with an RBI single to left center, 3-0.
Ages pitched three scoreless innings before Amelia Hatthorn came on in relief in the top of the fifth. Three straight singles from the Lions loaded up the bases for Maria Detillier to hit a sacrifice fly to bring in SLU's first run of the game, 3-1. After a scoreless sixth inning, SLU tied the game up in the top of the seventh, 3-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Ella Hill pinch hit and worked the count to 2-2 before crushing her sixth homerun of the season to straightaway center and walk-off the game for the Lumberjacks who snap the nation's longest win streak.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Seven different Lumberjacks recorded a hit with Jamie Varga being the only one with multiple hits.
• Both of Varga's hits were doubles.
• Adelyn Becerra, Kyi'Marri Ester, Malia Jones, and Ella Hill each recorded an RBI.
• Hill recorded her sixth homerun of the season.
• Jordyn Ages pitched 4.0 innings allowing five hits and one run.
• Amelia Hatthorn came on in relief to pick up her ninth win after pitching 3.0 innings allowing four hits and two runs.

It is a quick turnaround for the Jacks as they head to Lake Charles for a three-game series against the McNeese Cowgirls beginning on Friday with a single game at 6:00 p.m. before wrapping up with a 1:00 and 3:30 p.m. double header on Saturday.
