A 4-4 day from Ellie Vance with two RBIs powers SFA to a run-rule 10-1 victory.
HOUSTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team looked to secure their first SLC series sweep against the HCU Huskies in their Saturday series finale.
After a scoreless first two innings from Kai Hudson and Addy Prasifka, the Jacks struck first after Lilly Bean hit a leadoff single followed by a double from Kylie Bishop which put two runners on for Jamie Varga and no outs. Varga took advantage of the situation and hit an RBI single down the left field line, 1-0. After a groundout, Ellie Vance stepped up to the plate and crushed a triple to right center to score two more runs for SFA, 3-0.
Hudson continued to pitch a shutout as neither team scored in the fourth or fifth inning. The Lumberjack offense did not stop there as a leadoff single from Kara Pride and a double from Bean put two runners on for Kylie Bishop. Bishop smoked a two-RBI single back up the middle to clear the bases, 5-0. A defensive miscue from HCU allowed Bishop to score from second and Varga to reach base safely, 6-0. After that Varga stole second and Paul reached on another HCU defensive error before a Vance single loaded up the bases for Adelyn Becerra. Becerra dropped a ball into right center to score Varga and Paul, 8-0. Kayden Frazier stepped up to the plate with runners on second and third. Frazier hit a blooper single to shallow left field to score Vance and recorded her first collegiate RBI, then a throwing error allowed Becerra to score, 10-0. HCU scored one run in the bottom of the sixth, but Hudson shut the door on any sort of Husky comeback to secure a dominant 10-1 win.
