Lumberjacks Sweep Doubleheader Against Huskies

Powered by complete game efforts from Crimson Bryant and Amelia Hatthorn, SFA secures a series win over HCU.
HOUSTON, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team traveled to Houston to open the series with a doubleheader against the Huskies.
Game 1: SFA 4, HCU 1
SFA got on the board quickly as back-to-back singles from Kaylee Paul and Ellie Vance put two runners on for Malia Jones. Jones singled through the left side to bring in Paul and Vance, 2-0. HCU cut the lead to one after a solo homerun in the bottom of the second, 2-1. In the top of the third, Adelyn Becerra reached on a fielding error and advanced to third after an errant throw on her steal of second base. Jones stepped up to the plate and recorded her third RBI of the game with a single to right center which brought in Becerra, 3-1. The Jacks added another insurance run in the top of the fifth after back-to-back singles from Vance and Becerra and then both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Kara Pride recorded an RBI groundout to score Vance, 4-1.
Game 2: SFA 6, HCU 0
Once again, the Jacks got on the board early in the first with a two-RBI single from Becerra scored Jamie Varga and Paul, 2-0. After a scoreless second inning, the Lumberjack offense continued to fire on all cylinders. In the top of the third, Becerra recorded an RBI groundout that scored Paul, 3-0. In the top of the fourth, a single from Lilly Bean then a double from Varga put runners on second a third for Paul. Paul crushed a triple to deep right field that was inches away from her second career homerun and scored two more runs, 5-0. Vance followed that up with her third single of the game which scored Paul from third, 6-0. After that, both pitchers did not allow another run to cross home plate.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Ellie Vance led the SFA offense going 6-7 from the plate with one RBI and two runs.
• Kaylee Paul followed Vance going 5-7 from the plate with four runs, two RBIs, and one triple.
• Malia Jones went 2-3 in the first game of the day and recorded three of the Jacks four RBIs.
• Crimson Bryant pitched a complete game while allowing five hits and stricking out seven batters.
• Amelia Hatthorn pitched a complete game two and allowed three hits and struck out four batters.
