Jacks Swept by Cardinals in Saturday Doubleheader

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team wrapped up their series against the UIW Cardinals with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader.
Game 1: UIW 10, SFA 1 (5)
After a scoreless first inning from starters Kai Hudson and Ava Hernandez, UIW put up five runs in top of the second, 5-0. SFA got on the board in the bottom of the second off an RBI double to right center from Lilly Bean scored Morgan Wright from first, 5-1. In the top of the fifth, the Cardinals put up another five spot to take a commanding 10-1 lead. SFA got one runner on in the bottom of the fifth but were unable to mount a comeback as the first game ended in a 10-1 run rule victory for UIW.
Game 2: UIW 5, SFA 0
Game two of the doubleheader quickly turned into a pitcher's duel as Amelia Hatthorn and Sam Portillo threw five scoreless innings. UIW struck first with two runs in the top of the sixth and then added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Jenny Robledo came on in relief of Portillo and pitched two hitless innings to prevent an SFA comeback.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Kaylee Paul was 3-5 from the plate today.
• Ellie Vance followed with two hits.
• Lilly Bean recorded the lone RBI and double for the Jacks.
• Amelia Hatthorn led the team with three strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Jacks will continue their SLC play next weekend with a doubleheader against HCU on Friday, March 27 at 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. in Houston.
