Jacks Secure Walk-Off Run Rule Victory over Mavs

Malia Jones crushes two home runs in SFA’s offensive explosion.
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team returned home fresh off their Roadrunner Classic Championship to face UT-Arlington in a Tuesday night matchup.
SFA got the scoring started early with an RBI single from Kara Pride, 1-0. Malia Jones got her night started with a three-run home run that skied over the left field wall for her fourth homer of the season, 4-0. UTA got back one in the second inning, 4-1. The Jacks did not let their feet off the gas as a two-RBI single from Adelyn Becerra grew the SFA lead to five, 6-1. Pride followed that with her second RBI of the day to bring in lucky number seven, 7-1.
The Mavs plated three in the top of the fourth to pull within three runs, 7-4. In the bottom of the fourth, Pride flew out in foul territory to the right fielder then Kylie Bishop scored on a throwing error by the right fielder, 9-4. SFA plated two more runs in the fifth with more defensive miscues from UTA, 10-4. The Mavs scored two runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to four, 10-6. Jones launched another ball to the center field for a two-run blast, 12-6. Lilly Bean followed with an RBI double that scored Ella Hill from first, 13-6. Morgan Wright came in to pinch hit with a chance to walk-off the game, and she did just that with a single down the left field line which brought in Sammy Hagman from second, 14-6.
POSTGAME NOTES
• SFA has now won seven of their eight last games.
• Malia Jones led the offense going 2-3 with five RBIs, two runs, and two home runs.
• Jamie Varga, Adelyn Becerra, and Kara Pride each recorded two hits with Becerra and Pride each bringing in two RBIs.
• Kai Hudson picked up her second collegiate win, while Reagan Hall pitched 2.1 innings in relief, and Amelia Hatthorn secured the final defensive out for SFA in the top of the sixth.
UP NEXT
The Jacks will head to Ruston, Louisiana to participate in the Bulldog Classic hosted by Louisiana Tech. SFA will open the tournament against Northern Iowa on Thursday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m.
