SFA suffers first loss of season as Arkansas-Pine Bluff plates two runs in seventh and eighth innings
PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Stephen F. Austin suffered its first loss of the 2026 season on Friday afternoon as Arkansas-Pine Bluff pushed across a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to claim a 6-3 victory in the first of four games from the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex this weekend.
The Jacks (5-1) scored first as a batted ball in Cooper Schneider's third inning at bat plated Juan Cantua for a 1-0 Jacks lead. The Lions (3-2) grabbed the lead in the bottom half on a two-run single with two outs, but the Jacks responded in the top half of the fourth inning as a double play ball with the bases loaded chased home the tying run for SFA.
SFA took the lead back in the sixth as Cantua grounded out to plate Mark Henning, but the Lions scored twice in the seventh and eighth innings on a combined four hits: nearly half of their plate production for the game, to take the lead.
Cody Templeton worked 5.0 innings in his second start of the season. He scattered five hits, allowed a pair of runs and struck out three to just one walk. Reid Bowyer tossed two innings as the first arm out of the bullpen. Bowyer saw three runs cross, two earned, despite pitching a quickly efficient sixth inning. Kadin Munson, Andrew Wenske and Jack James all pitched a third of an inning.
