
Ladyjacks Take Game One of the SFA Tournament

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Volleyball program began the first SFA Tournament with a Thursday night matchup against the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.
The first set was a close battle that featured 10 ties and five lead changes, but Louisiana prevailed 25-23. The 'Jacks struggled from the service line with five service errors in the first set.
The beginning of the second set continued to be tightly contested until the 'Jacks went on a 7-0 run to take a 16-11 lead. From there the Ladyjacks cruised to a 25-19 second set victory.
Both teams traded points in the early going of the third, but after a four-point spurt, the 'Jacks held a comfortable lead. Later on, SFA went on a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 20-12. The Ladyjacks secured the third set off a kill from Ilana de Assis, 25-17.
The trend of a close battle early in sets continued in the fourth, but after a 7-2 spurt SFA held a comfortable 19-13 lead. Louisiana fought back to make it a two-point game, but a kill from Katherine Holtman secured a 25-22 fourth set win and a 3-1 match victory.
POSTGAME NOTES
• After dropping the first set, SFA hit over .300 in each of the remaining sets.
• SFA beat UL in every stat category; points (76-57), kills (61-46), aces (6-5), blocks (9-6), assists (58-43) and digs (70-62).
• Ilana de Assis led the 'Jacks with 16 kills and also had 13 digs for her 41st double-double.
• Katherine Holtman followed with 11 kills and led the team with three aces.
• Jayden Flynn led the offense with 26 assists, followed by Cambry Saul who had 23.
• Kyanna Creecy was a menace at the net with seven blocks, a new season high.
• Caroline Kahle led the back line with 16 digs.
• SFA moves to 14-0 against Louisiana.

The 'Jacks will face former WAC foe Abilene Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5. SFA leads the series 14-2 against the Wildcats.
