The Lumberjacks Fend off the Bulldogs in a 1-0 Victory at Louisiana Tech

Sierra McCluer keeps the shutout streak alive for the fourth-straight match, as Brielle Buchanan nets the only goal in the match.
RUSTON, La. – The Stephen F. Austin Women's Soccer team defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Thursday, September 11, in a 1-0 victory.
The Lumberjacks found the only score in the match when a spiraling pass from Rachel Robinson from the attacking baseline was able to locate Brielle Buchanan, who beat her defender on an aerial challenge to head one in for SFA. The goal came with just 19 minutes remaining in the match, as neither team had found the scoreboard until then.
Louisiana Tech was able to take 15 shots against SFA, with nine of them coming in the second half of the match. Ansley Ittel made her first career start as a freshman for the Bulldogs, saving 6-of-7 shots on target for the night in 90 minutes of action. Ashley Leonhart accounted for five shots for Louisiana Tech, with two on goal in her 84 minutes on the stat sheet.
Sierra McCluer and the SFA defense once again keep the shutout streak alive with seven saves from McCluer, keeping the Bulldogs off the scoreboard. Brielle Buchanan and Rachel Robinson pushed the offense with the lone goal in the match, but not before Buchanan attempted six shots for SFA, with her seventh finding the back of the net. SFA outshot the Bulldogs 19-15, as the 'Jacks outshot Louisiana Tech in both halves, in a match that traded offense on both sides of the pitch. Bryn Geppert led the defense with 90 minutes in the match, being the only Lumberjack besides McCluer to be on the pitch for the full duration. This win for SFA is the first against the Bulldogs since 2010, when the Lumberjacks defeated the Bulldogs in a 2-1 victory in Nacogdoches.
