Three 'Jacks Named to the UTSA Invitational Outstanding Players Team
SAN ANTONIO, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin volleyball program looked to secure a birthday win for Head Coach Debbie Humphreys against the defending Sun Belt Champions, Texas State.
In the first set, the Bobcats jumped out to an 8-2 lead. SFA fought back to within two, 22-20 but were unable to get past Texas State who won the first set 25-21.
Texas State once again jumped out to an early 4-2 lead, but SFA quickly tied the set up at five. The 'Jacks then went on a 6-1 run that was capped off by back-to-back aces from Katherine Holtman, 11-6. The offensive dominance continued as the Ladyjacks finished the set on a 6-0 run that saw Holtman secure her third and fourth ace of the match, 25-16.
The SFA offense was flying early as they jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the third set. The 'Jacks held at least a five-point lead for the rest of the set. SFA secured a 25-17 after back-to-back kills from Kennedy Jones and Ilana de Assis.
In the fourth set, the Ladyjacks jumped out to a 5-2 lead and never looked back. The 'Jacks kept up the pressure from the service line as they recorded six aces in the fourth set alone. SFA went on to secure their first win against Texas State since 2006 with a 25-14 fourth set victory.
Three 'Jacks were named to the UTSA Invitational Outstanding Players team. Ilana de Assis was named MVP after recording 24 kills, hitting .286, two aces, 19 digs, and two blocks. Katherine Holtman earned a spot after tying Assis for the team lead with 24 kills, hitting .320, fives aces, and four blocks. Caroline Kahle also earned a spot after leading the 'Jacks defense with 23 digs, 13 assists and four aces.

• SFA won every stat category; points (75-54), kills (52-43), aces (14-4), blocks (9-7), assists (51-40) and digs (45-43).
• SFA recorded 14 aces in a match in back-to-back seasons. Last time that happened was September 26, 2024 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
• Katherine Holtman led the team with four aces which tied her career high.
• Ilana de Assis led the team with 14 kills for the second straight match.
• Jayden Flynn had the offense flying and recorded 25 assists and three aces.
• Molly Cravens recorded five blocks for her second straight match.
UP NEXT
SFA will head back home to host their first tournament of the 2025 season. It all starts on Thursday, September 4 against Louisiana at 5:30 pm, then Friday, September 5 against Abilene Christian at 5 pm, and ending on Saturday, September 6 for the Battle of the Piney Woods on the court against Sam Houston at 2 pm.
