Templeton Dominates as 'Jacks Take Game Two Against Northwestern State

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (12-28, 4-19 SLC) defeated the Northwestern State Demons (26-17, 16-9 SLC) this afternoon, 8-1.
Through four innings, neither team scored, as both starters were keeping the lineups off balance. Cody Templeton was in control from the start, as he faced the minimum through four innings and struck out three. The only offense for the Demons came in the fifth inning, when Northwestern State scored one unearned run courtesy of a throwing error, taking the first lead of the game.
The score stayed the same until the seventh inning when the Lumberjacks finally broke through against the Demon pitching staff. Julian Swift led off the inning with a single and advanced to third when Kevin Duran reached on a fielding error. Cooper Schneider followed with an RBI single through the right side, scoring Swift and tying the game at one. After a strikeout, pinch hitter Mason Poppen singled to right, loading the bases for Cermodrick Bland. Bland came through, smoking a single into right to score Schneider and Duran. After Bland stole second, Dalton Mullins would bring home pinch runner Austin Cadroy. Josh Ibe capped off the inning with an RBI single into left field, scoring Bland and giving the Lumberjacks a 5-1 lead.
This would have been enough run support for Cody Templeton, but the Lumberjacks offense wasn't satisfied. In the eighth, Swift again led off with a single, and back-to-back errors by the Demons brought him around to score. One batter later, Cadroy would rip an RBI single into left, scoring Duran. Bland followed with a sacrifice fly to score Schneider, giving the 'Jacks an 8-1 lead after eight innings.
Templeton would finish his afternoon with a perfect ninth inning, striking out one to shut the door on the Demons. The Lumberjacks would take game two against the Demons, 8-1.
Cody Templeton (4-4) won his fourth game, while Tyler Bryan (1-6) was the loser.
