
SFA Men's Track and Field Take Home Southland Indoor Conference Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The SFA Track and Field team wrapped up the 2025 Indoor Southland Conference Championships in a big way today, as the men took home first place while the women tied for sixth place.
Men's Results
The Lumberjacks had a very successful meet, bringing a Southland Conference Championship back to Nacogdoches. 23 men placed in eighth place or better, earning points. Elkana Kipruto continued his historic season, winning the men's 5000 meters by almost 20 seconds. He ran a 13:53.78 to bring home 10 points for the 'Jacks. Kipruto also placed second for SFA in the 3,000 meters, bringing home another eight points. He recorded a time of 8:09.39. Teammate Riley Elliott also got points for the Lumberjacks in the 3000 meters, running an 8:18.68, which was good enough for fifth place and four points.
Bryson Williams brought home 10 points for the Lumberjacks as he placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 15.60 meters. Jarvis Anderson also grabbed a podium spot in the triple jump, placing second behind Williams with a jump of 15.48 meters to bring home another eight points. Oghenetega Orkevwie made it three Lumberjacks in the top-four in the triple jump, as he placed fourth with a jump of 15.23 meters, earning another five points. Jackson Parrish grabbed another eight points for the 'Jacks in the 800 meters with a time of 1.52.93. Hunter Murphy also finished runner-up in the high jump with a jump of 2.12 meters, tacking on eight more points for the Lumberjacks. In the same event, Nicholas Grullon placed fifth with a jump of 2.09 meters, good enough for another four points.
Semion Brodski placed third in the heptathlon with a score of 5307, bringing home another six points for SFA. In the pole vault, the 'Jacks had three guys bring home points. Brayden Hill placed fourth with a vault of 4.65 meters, Payton Bragg placed fifth with a vault of 4.65 meters, and Cade Carter placed sixth with a vault of 4.55 meters. Those three men combined for 10 points for the Lumberjacks. Nicholas Grullon placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.71, which notched another point.
In the one mile for the Lumberjacks, SFA had three guys place in the top six. Riley Elliott finished in third, Robert Fulle finished in fifth, and Wyatt Hoover rounded out the group in sixth. They combined for 13 points. Fulle also placed fourth in the 800 meters, earning another four points. Kason J. Reed earned points in two events for the 'Jacks. He placed fourth in the shot put and eighth in the weight throw, earning a total of six points. To round out the individual events, Ryan Binskin placed sixth in the 5,000 meters and Andrew Mullen placed eighth, earning another four points.
And that's not all. In the relays, the Lumberjacks also found success. Jarvis Anderson, Johnny Banks III, Mason Roseboro, and Nicolaus Ray placed fifth in the 4x400 relay, grabbing four points. Finally, in the distance medley, Pablo Lessari, Johnny Banks III, Kevin Curry IV, and Riley Elliott placed second for another eight points.
Overall, the Lumberjacks earned a total of 124 points, 31 points more than the second-place school. The Lumberjacks dominated the men's portion of the event and have a Southland Conference Championship to prove it.
Women's Results
On the women's side, the 'Jacks had 12 athletes and one medley place in the top eight, earning points. Mercy Kipchumba was the only athlete to place in the top three on the women's side, notching a third-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:05.12. She also placed eighth in the 3000 meters. These two results netted seven points for SFA. Valentine Jemutai also placed sixth in the 5000 meters, earning three points. In the 60 meters, two 'Jacks earned points, as Timiejha Furlow placed sixth and Kennedy Swann placed seventh, earning three points. Amani Graham grabbed five points in the 60-meter hurdles, placing fourth with a time of 8.69.
Jamie Richardson placed fifth in the high jump, earning four points, while Kira Van Den Ham and Montanna Bethel placed fourth and fifth in the pole vault. Amirah Wooden also earned points for the Lumberjacks, placing fifth and grabbing four points in the weight throw. Kenisa Meyer rounded out the individual events for the Lumberjacks in the pentathlon, placing fourth and earning five points.
In the distance medley, Trude Lamb, Sharon Boyani, Jada Gibson, and Elina Bailey placed sixth, grabbing another three points.
Overall, the women placed tied for sixth with a total of 45.5 points.
Head Coach Robert Hansen was very proud of his team. "This group is full of competitors." Said Hansen. "We wanted this badly, and we went and got it. It took everyone. Every guy and every lady, for that matter, to come together and get this thing done. Every event group contributed. And I dare not name names because they all gave everything they had!"
