Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks had their work cut out for them in their midweek game this week as they squared off with the number one team in the land in the Texas Longhorns on the road. Even though the 'Jacks were not able to pull off the upset win, they continued to keep their offense humming at a steady pace as they totaled eight hits, saw seven different batters record a hit, and tallied a pair of walks. The Lumberjacks now return home to the friendly confines of SFA Softball Field looking to improve their 3-4 home record this season where they have recorded eight or more hits in four of their seven home games this season.
Huskies at a Glance:
The Houston Christian University Huskies were victorious their last time out as they defeated the Texas Southern University Tigers 3-2 in their midweek game to pick up their second home win of the year. The Huskies now hit the road looking to improve on both their 4-7 away record as well as their 5-4 conference record that has seen them sweep Northwestern State, and record wins over both Southeastern Louisiana and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Scouting Report-Lumberjacks:
Ellie Vance continues to torment opposing pitchers as she picked up a hit against the Longhorns on Tuesday to extend her hitting streak to an impressive 10 games, recording a pair of multi-hit efforts during her current hitting streak. Kaylee Paul continues to form a solid hitting tandem with Vance as Paul has recorded a hit in five of her last six games and continues to keep her batting average a steady mark over .400, as Paul has not seen her batting average fall below .400 since February 28th. Hope Lusk mashed her third double of the year to get SFA on the board against the Longhorns on Tuesday with a two-run double, while Jamie Varga brought home SFA's third run with an RBI walk as she continues to display excellent plate discipline, drawing a walk for the third straight game. Jordyn Ages and Alexis Telford continue to form a nice 1-2 punch at the top of the SFA pitching rotation as they have combined to throw four complete games, have struck out 46 batters, and both own an ERA under 3.25.
Scouting Report-Huskies:
AB Garcia continues to be one of the most consistent hitters in the nation as her .521 batting average not only leads all Huskies hitters, but also ranks her fourth in the nation in that category while her 49 hits have her tied for sixth in the entire country. Haylie Savage continues to come through with runners on base for HCU as she has launched a team-high two home runs to go along with her team-leading 27 RBIs. Leah Hammack leads the Huskies pitching staff as she has thrown four complete games, holds a 5-5 record, and has punched out 33 batters this season.
