SAN ANTONIO, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team (14-17) finished their series against the UIW Cardinals (16-12) with a doubleheader.
Game 1:
The Cardinals got on the board quick with a five-run second inning. SFA responded in the top of the third after a walk by Kaylee Paul, a single from Mikaelah Burkland, and another walk from Hope Lusk loaded up the bases. Ellie Vance then grounded into a fielder's choice where Paul was thrown out at home, but it brought up Kyi'Marri Ester who was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, 5-1.
UIW tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third, 8-1. The 'Jacks started the fourth with a blast from Adelyn Becerra for a solo home run, 8-2. SFA tried to mount a comeback in the seventh after a leadoff walk from Jamie Varga and a single from Paul, but the Cardinals secured an 8-2 victory in the first game of the day.
